What’s In It For Me?
Not a whole lot
Just yesterday, I received a communication from Medium telling me it had suspended a story I wrote because of the piece’s questionable images. The truth is that I have model releases from all the women who were in those images, and the only reason for the suspension came from a snitch who thought I didn’t have the rights I had. I know this from the ugly response she left on the story, a response that should have had her suspended.
Rather than argue the point or do any suggested editing, I simply deleted the fucking story. I mean — I’d earned maybe $4 total for my effort. And experience has taught me that there wasn’t much left to the article’s lifespan. Easier to nuke the fucker.
I take issue with Medium honoring snitches — effectively convicting a writer with no due process or trial. It’s not the first time it’s happened here. And by listening to wackos, they encourage internet psychos to continue on their malignant course.
Medium has had some issues attracting new readers. The corporation’s attempt to do just that failed in the recent past when it thought that hiring big-time writers and paying them big bucks might up subscriptions. It didn’t.
Look at the stats above. You see 5000 views for a story I wrote, almost all of which come from external sources. And for all those…
