And a tale of failure

Oh joy! Another of what this platform calls “meta-medium” stories about how to successfully navigate this cyber world. But mine are different. I don’t brag about how much money I made. My stories are ultimately more along the lines of how to fail here rather than how to succeed, because make no mistake about it, I am a failure at trying to earn a living or garner a following on the Internet, here or anywhere else.

Addressing the title of this piece: About two months ago, I decided to regroup and launch another offensive on medium success — with predictable results. The strategy this time around centered on submitting to publications I’d discovered had been anointed as Nominators for the Boost program which chooses the stories medium opts to feature and promote.

Because I have a fair number of followers (though trust me, that doesn’t really translate into a lot of views and reads), and some cred derived from being published in major media, I was invited to write for almost all of the vaunted pubs to which I applied and had several stories accepted and published by them as well.

This in itself could be considered a victory were it not for the anemic numbers on the tote board. When I use that word “anemic,” I compare the length of time I spent DoorDashing versus writing and interacting on this platform to…
