The Meta-Medium Stories I Hate Most

The braggarts

Just in case you haven’t noticed, this platform is chock-full of what the boss calls meta-medium stories. They’re all pieces that have one thing in common: they talk smack about this community. Some criticize the way it’s run — mostly people who fail here. I don’t have a problem with those stories. They’re straightforward and hidden-agenda free.

It’s the pieces in which writers give advice on how to succeed in a thinly-veiled attempt to generate revenue while bragging on their accomplishments that makes me want to puke. When I see one of these with 6k claps and 100 comments, almost all of which congratulate the braggart, it drives me wild.

I mention this today because just a few minutes ago, I read one that was so egregious in its mission that I was ready to explode. The writer reveals that she’s been on this platform for four months and has been boosted eight times. And it is now her altruism that compels her to share how it’s done. Horse shit!

If that really was her goal, the girl could simply have offered the advice “I’ve written voluminously on this platform and been boosted once or twice in recognition of my effort. Here’s how I think getting boosted works,” and then shared her insights.
