Not completely put out to pasture by DoorDash Inc., I somehow managed to score myself 3.5 hours of work just a couple of days ago after being shut out of the app for an entire month. Such is the dashing situation in New York City — or for me at least. Apparently, the company hired too many delivery people and with no legitimate reason to terminate them, they simply ghost us. But I digress. Not my point today.

Determined to stay local within my neighborhood, I found myself traveling north on a dash out of my Lower Manhattan zone. Because one of the parameters of getting an end of the week bonus includes accepting a certain percentage of offers — and I had fallen below that percentage — I felt obligated to accept the dash.

Heading south after the delivery, the phone pinged with what I thought was a dash back to the downtown area. Reading the app with my distance glasses, I saw “121 Avenue of the Americas.”

But the address was actually “1211 Avenue of the Americas.” Ouch! I’d be going still further uptown. Up from 34th treet I pedaled — past 42nd Street — and into the Holiday melee.

The big Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center is a much-beloved attraction with hordes coming from different states and even countries to…
