My mother was a copywriter at a big agency. She didn’t approve of what I was doing but when couched in corporate terms, she saw the similarities between where she worked and what I was running. I even challenged her to name escort agencies complete with tag lines a la Asian Vacation — Make the great escape, Asian Honeymoon — For that once in a lifetime feeling, Asian Firecracker — Get the best bang for your buck, Asian Flower — Put your metal to the petal etc. (Those are mine btw.) Hers weren’t that wonderful (sorry, ma).

Funny story: I used to try to hook my mother up with editors of men's sophisticates when I was writing for them. She sent a story to Gallery Mag about her first sexual experience - at age 15. The editor called me with a big “what the fuck! Is she trying to get us arrested?”
