More Confusion About Medium’s Payment Algorithm

I’ll never figure it out

I know. Wrong logo! Hey! Close e-fucking-nuff. Sometimes it takes longer to find the image than write the story. And that has to change!

Moving on…this morning I arose to much more money than I anticipated earning in the Partner Program. Mind you, it’s not enough to matter. But that number seems to have become validation for my art and effort. So from that standpoint, it is significant.

According to the approximate member reading time, my compensation was double what I expected. I wasn’t inclined to check my earnings on over 100 stories to solve the mystery. But maybe I could at least examine yesterday’s stories (there were three).

Well, I got to the day before’s before running out of steam, and found the answer. One story had 13 minutes of member reading time and $1.76 in earnings.

Pretty much every other story I’ve ever checked (with a few exceptions), earned in the neighborhood of 2.5–3 cents per minute. Exactly how this one spiked to over 13 cents per minute eludes me.

If anybody can explain exactly how this kind of thing happens, I’d be curious, because obviously, I’d try to duplicate the circumstance in the future.

Anyway…after some pretty pukey numbers in the past week despite my ever-increasing effort to succeed on Medium, I was considering surrender owing to the dismal results. But now? I persevere — for a minute and a half. Not because I think this is really gonna happen. But just because I have nothing else to do.

Except go out to buy some bananas and make a smoothie. Gotta bounce. I’m out on an early morning mission.
