Me and My “New” iMac
Such a deal!
The time arrives in every computer’s life. Sometimes your trusty old friend goes poof and it’s over. But more often than not (at least for me), the signs of old age and impending demise set in and I know to move on before the old unit dies and I won’t be able to simply move all the data over with a firewire or ethernet cable.
Ever since 1997 when I was working with a corporation that used macs, I’ve been a mac guy. And as you can imagine, I’ve owned several Apple units during that period.
Only one did I purchase brand new: an eMac I bought in 2002 with printer for a lofty $1700. It was a dog with fleas. I had so many problems with that computer I vowed never to buy new again. And I haven’t.
Since that time, I’ve purchased every iMac used from Craigslist. Yesterday I bought my 4th in this manner and once again, it’s a winner.
My previous iMac (which I purchased for $200 from a French lawyer six years ago) has been a cherry. But in the past few months, it’s been freezing mid-task. And Garageband files with lots of effects began dragging or just plain stopping. You get the idea. The joint’s days were numbered.
I lived with these problems for several months until finally, I knew it was time. On to Craigslist where I filtered out anything more than two miles off…
