First, I suspect $962 in a month on Medium puts you in in the top 1/10th of one percent here. Two years ago, I was making that much here. Now, I make pennies. Count your blessings.

Your Newsbreak experiences and extrapolations are correct in my view. Most of my Newsbreak stories make pennies like on Medium. A few will be your big earners. And you won't know which will be which though I'm finding my prison stories have a better chance than others I've written on all manner of topics. So far, in two weeks of monetization on Newsbreak, I've earned as much as the past year on Medium. As a result, I cater my stories to the Newsbreak format - and then post them here as an aferthought.

One girl says she searches what's trending on Reddit and writes about those subjects to turn a buck on Newsbreak. But she's the shallowest of millennials who apparently does well here even though her stories are virtually worthless in my view.
