Finally, I’m a One Percenter

But not the way I wanted to be

When we hear the term “one percenter,” images of yachts and mansions come into view. To become a member of that exclusive group is a dream many people fantasize about. Well, folks, I’ve made the cut. I am now a one-percenter — but not in the realm I wanted. Check it out!

As we all know, medium has a Boost program designed to reward writers who publish meaningful stories judged worthy by our peers. To get a story Boosted isn’t all that easy. Like just for example, this one won’t get Boosted if for no other reason than it’s meta-medium, which automatically disqualifies it regardless of the piece’s merit.

To the point of the title! Since the Boost program has been implemented, I have written hundreds of stories, three of which have actually been Boosted!

One was about gender wage disparity in professional basketball. The second addressed winning the favor of women by volunteering to wash the dishes. And the third was about the death of my mother. Whether they were worthy or not is irrelevant.

The staffer who runs the Boost program has revealed that 78% of Boosted stories get 1000 views. None of mine have come close to that figure. Why I won’t venture a guess.
