Exercising My Right To Downward Mobility With Doordash
But hey! They hired me with two felonies in one hour!
I know it sounds ridiculous for a guy as affluent as I am to work a food delivery gig on a bicycle. And it’s equally preposterous to write a story (or stories) about the job for people who essentially order through Doordash — rather than work for the corporation. But maybe after reading this, you’ll gain some insight on how to navigate the food delivery world from the consumer side.
I have only been delivering Doordash for 4 days. From the monetary standpoint, here are the results: I’ve been on the clock (though not always working) for 25 hours — and I’ve earned $400 gross pay. Which even with me sitting by the water or in my apartment while having the app on, I’m grossing about $16 per hour. That’s good for bike guys. And now that I have a little experience and know the app better, I’m approaching the $20/hour mark.
Working Saturday night from midnight to five was the best shift. I made over $20 per hour. And if I just had turned down that McDonald’s run, I’d have made $25 per hour. Which leads me to the consumer point of view.
Do not order Doordash from fast food joints. Especially Mickey D’s. OMG! I can’t begin to tell you how overwhelmed and befuddled the McDonald's crew was Saturday…
