Enough About Serena Already

I’m rooting for her to lose

USTA tennis (If you’re a woman, who are you gonna compete with this?)

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t dislike Serena Williams as much as say — I do Donald Trump. But while all the hoopla rages in the media behind her last USTA major, I’m just not a huge fan.

When professional athletes excel in their sport, the spotlight is directed at them in so many ecstatic as well as depressing moments that it’s difficult for them to hide who they really are. And having seen how Serena acts in a wide variety of circumstances, I have to say that I don’t like her. Serena has moments when she acts like a spoiled child. She’s rarely warm — and never entertaining.

And there’s another thing. I recognize the woman has worked very hard and endlessly on her tennis game. Very few athletes rise to the top of the profession without putting in a lot of hard physical and mental work. But just take a look at Serena’s body. The woman is a powerhouse. That’s genetics — and luck.

I’m reminded of Martina Navratilova in her prime facing off against Chris Evert. I’d look at Martina’s physique and wonder, “How can Chris compete with Martina? Martina is bigger, stronger and as a result, hits the ball harder and faster. It’s almost as if a woman is trying to beat a man!” And by the end of their careers, Martina was thumping Chris routinely.
