As a volunteer at soup kitchens and churches, I've seen incredible food waste even at those places. Imagine at a Trader Joe's! My neighborhood has a lot of dumpster divers. There's competition. But this is a big city with lots of homeless people wandering the streets. In a suburban or rural area, I imagine dumpster diving is less prevalent.
