Still, I caught a break yesterday pursuant to the old adage. First, Yahoo News ran a story about another death at New York City’s infamous Rikers Island jail. Seeing an opportunity to get published on a “real” website — and make some real money — I seized the moment, wrote a quick quasi op-ed, and sent it off to my new Daily Beast editor.

He responded that it wasn’t wide enough in scope (my words — but that was the gist of his response). After ascertaining he was still interested (via another email), I simply rewrote the entire piece at which point he passed on the whole deal with an apology for having me go to work for nothing.

But he doesn’t know how quickly I write these op-eds. They happen in a matter of minutes and not hours. So on that front — back to the drawing board. Maybe next time.

In the middle of all this, DoorDash’s escalation team was emailing apologies about the incredible snafu with their buggy app. I guess that veiled threat of me exposing their incompetence in a NY Daily News story gave them a start, and the corporation as a whole went into damage control.

The stolen money (or the amount of the stolen money) has been entered into my account — and I’ll be receiving it on the next payday. I responded that the app…
